Intern/Resident - Level II
Intern/Resident - Level II
Level 2A:
Ideal for interns and residents who must be prepared to deal with paediatric emergency arrest situations. This class is the first of 3 designed to prepare the doctor for competency in cardio-pulmonary evaluation, interventions and resuscitation. This particular level focuses on rapid assessment of the DRABCDE and appropriate interventions. Anatomy & physiology, pharmacology, and mechanisms of interventions are explored and discussed. The basics of team management are also introduced.
Skills: Paediatric CPR, basic and advanced airways (manual, oral/nasal, LMA, laryngeal tube, intubation), manual defibrillation, IV/IO setup and administration, drug administration, ECG interpretation (in the arrest environment). Skill and theoretical competency in all areas are required for certification.
Time: Lecture: 2 hours
Skills: 4 hours
Total: Approx 8 hours (Including assessment time)
Accreditation:
•ACEM: This activity is accredited for 10 MOPS points
•ACRRM: This activity has been accredited for 28 CME Points, 10 MOPS Anaesthetics.
•RACGP: This Active Learning Module has been approved by the RACGP QA&CPD Program for 40 Category 1 Points
•RACP: This course may qualify towards your MOPS requirements.
This course qualifies under the “Strengthening Medicare” GP Procedural Upskilling Support program for up to $2,000/day reimbursement (Category 1&2)
Level 2B:
A logical progression from 2A, this level focuses on modifiable factors leading to paediatric arrest situations (cardiac and respiratory), and their underlying mechanisms and prevention. Additional electrical disorders are discussed (blocks, junctional, atrial, bradycardic) with the appropriate emergency interventions. Anatomy & physiology, pathology, and mechanisms of interventions are highlighted in the level. Additional algorithms and Mega-Code scenarios are explored.
Skills: ECG rhythm recognition of major disorders (blocks, escape, atrial, bradycardias), Mega-Code algorithms, pharmacological interventions, and prevention techniques for the modifiable factors. Skill and theoretical competency in all areas are required for certification.
Time: Lecture: 2 hours
Skills: 3 hours
Total: Approx 7 hours (Including assessment time)
Level 2C:
This level is directed towards leadership and crew management of cardiac arrest incidents. The basics of Crew Resource Management (CRM), mistake mitigation, and organization are the prime subjects covered. Out-of-clinical area response is discussed; both in equipment and personnel preparations. Resuscitation effort cessation is also covered. Completion of Levels 2A (or 3A) and 2B are required prior to enrolment.
Skills: Situation awareness, especially environmental and personnel dangers, “Plan B” development, moving patients, and team management. Role playing and task delegation scenarios will comprise the majority of the skills time.
Time: Lecture: 2 hours
Skills: 4 hours
Total: Approx 7 hours (Including assessment time)
